Along with colleagues Jedidiah Carlson (UT Austin), Dana Al-Hindi and Brenna Henn (both at UC Davis; Dana is a graduate student in Brenna’s lab), Sohini has coauthored a piece in Nature on how genetics research is being weaponized by extremists and being used to motivated violence - for example being cited in the screeds of mass shooters. Our hope is to identify ways to rethink the communication of our research and to reduce potential harmful impacts and misinterpretations by both the public and researchers in other disciplines. Stay tuned for more work in this vein, particularly around visualization of population genetic datasets!
