Fear Issue Cover: What’s it about?

Draft, pencil and charcoal on paper, A4 sheet. This draft was made before working on the same subjects with papier-mâché. Five faces with different expressions, each one representing a feeling of fear.

Core of the faces are the deep eyes, mirroring terror. The shape of the heads reminds of the medieval representation of plague and death that look like tenebrous carnival masks. This drawing fits the theme of our issue, not only in representing fear as a dehumanizing force, but also in rending it as a crystal-like condition, compound by different faces. Fear as simultaneous fragmentation of the self, fear as loss of directionality and purpose. Fear stuck in the head.
