Student Conduct and Community Standards

Providing students with a safe and educational environment to foster responsibility and address harm.

Brown University is committed to preparing students to contribute to life at Brown and beyond. If a student potentially violates the values, norms, or rules of our Brown community, the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards provides a safe, fair and educational environment to address alleged violations and encourage students to take accountability for their actions.

Guiding Principles, Code, and Procedures

Brown faculty, undergraduates, graduate and medical students, and staff are dedicated to supporting and maintaining a scholarly community that all share in the common enterprise of learning.

The Principles of the Brown University Community emphasize respect for the integrity of the academic process, individual integrity, respect for the freedoms and privileges of others, and respect for University resources.

The Code of Student Conduct contributes to a campus environment where ideas are freely exchanged, University property and processes are respected, and conflicts are peacefully resolved.

The Student Conduct Procedures address behaviors that hinder Brown's educational mission and potentially violate the Code of Student Conduct.

Student Involvement & Learning

Students are expected to uphold the principles of the Brown University community and actively contribute to addressing behaviors that conflict with them.
