Overview

Sometimes personal problems arise and you need to seek outside professional advice, but you are not sure where to turn. The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) is a benefit that is designed to help employees and their families in handle personal problems. Often referred to as an Employee Assistance Program, or EAP, this program provides confidential problem assessment and, in many cases, referral for a specific course of treatment.

Although all eligible faculty and staff may directly access the confidential assessment services of the FSAP, supervisors may also refer employees whose work performance is affected by personal problems or a crisis. In cases where participation in the FSAP is made a condition of continued employment by the supervisor, the course of treatment is still confidential; the supervisor is only informed that the referred employee is making satisfactory progress in the recommended course of treatment.

Confidentiality

Both the FSAP provider and the University view the confidentiality of these services to be of utmost importance. If you access the services directly, the University never even knows you have participated! Although Human Resources receives quarterly reports from the provider, these reports only reveal the usage numbers and general categories of issues - never any names or identifying information.

To access the program directly, employees or their immediate family members may call the FSAP, My Liberty Assist, at 1-877-695-2789 and indicate that they are covered by the Brown contract.
