Part IV: Current Memory

Instructor PDF
Allow 40-50 minutes

You have just been appointed curators of the Camp Grant Massacre Memorial. Your job is to plan the memorial and write its text, underlining the historical significance and meaning of the Camp Grant Massacre. What will the memorial look like? Where should it be located?
What will the text be?
Consider looking at some of the websites located in the “Present” section of the website, as well as the Apache Cultural Center’s text on the massacre (p. 271-2 in the book) for some general ideas.

For instructors: Encourage students to draw upon the knowledge and experience they have obtained through the whole course of exercises. The students should think critically about the process of historical memory and memorialization and who is included and excluded from these processes.
