About Management Essentials

The Management Essentials Program offers a strong foundation in crucial information and skills for effective leadership. It focuses on key HR-related policies and procedures within the context of the employee lifecycle, essential for every manager to know.

The pilot program is divided into six modules. The initial two modules concentrate on building self-awareness, effective manager characteristics, and powerful communications for today’s work environment. In the remaining modules (4-6),  managers will navigate Brown's key HR policies and learn other key skills throughout these modules. Below is a graphic illustrating the breakdown of each session.

 Benefits OF THE PROGRAM

The Management Essentials program helps managers better understand themselves and the qualities of effective managers at Brown University. By identifying their key strengths through the CliftonStrengths assessment, managers receive instruction on how to apply these strengths in their roles, leading to more impactful results.

The program also focuses on improving communication skills for both remote and onsite work settings, facilitating genuine interactions. Bite-sized learning moments integrated into the modules teach vital skills like delegation and conflict resolution, providing valuable tools for navigating various challenges.

Eligibility and Participation

Anyone who manages at least 1 full-time direct report can participate in the program. Once enrolled in the program, participants will be responsible for completing the following items:

  1. Complete the CliftonStrengths assessment ahead of the program.
  2. Allocate 15-20 minutes for pre-session work before each module.
